Getting there

Car

If you are starting your journey from Sofia, take the A1 highway towards Blagoevgrad. Continue on A1 and then take the exit towards Rila Monastery (Road 62). Drive for about 90 kilometers until you reach the town of Yakoruda. Once in Yakoruda, follow signs for Rila Mountain and park your car at the designated parking area. From there, you will need to hike to reach Kovach Peak, which is approximately a 3-4 hour trek depending on your pace.

Public Transportation

From Sofia, take a bus from the Central Bus Station to Blagoevgrad. The bus ride typically takes about 1.5 hours. Once in Blagoevgrad, transfer to a bus heading to Yakoruda. The journey to Yakoruda will take around 30-40 minutes. Upon arriving in Yakoruda, you will need to hike to Kovach Peak. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they can vary throughout the day.

Hiking

After parking your car in Yakoruda or arriving by bus, the hike to Kovach Peak begins at the marked trailhead. Follow the trail signs and ensure you have a good map or a GPS device. The hike is moderate to challenging, and it is essential to wear appropriate footwear and carry enough water and snacks. The trail is well-marked and will lead you through beautiful landscapes until you reach the summit of Kovach Peak, which offers stunning panoramic views of the Rila Mountains.
