Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Sapareva Banya, which is approximately 6 km from the Skakavitsa waterfall. From Sapareva Banya, head northeast on the main road (Route 62) towards Rila Monastery. After about 2 km, look for signs directing you to the 'Skakavitsa' trailhead. Park your car in the designated parking area near the trailhead. The parking may incur a small fee, typically around 5-10 BGN for the day.
Hiking
Once parked, follow the marked hiking trail that begins at the parking area. The hike to Skakavitsa waterfall is approximately 3 km and takes around 1 to 1.5 hours depending on your pace. The path is well-marked and leads through beautiful forested areas and along the river. Be sure to wear good hiking shoes, as the trail can be rocky and uneven in some sections.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take a bus from Sofia to Sapareva Banya. The bus ride typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive in Sapareva Banya, you can either take a taxi to the Skakavitsa trailhead, which will cost around 10-15 BGN, or follow the directions for hiking as mentioned above. It's advisable to check the bus schedules in advance, as they may vary.
