Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Rila and head southeast on the main road (E79). Follow the signs for the Rila Monastery, which is approximately 11 km away. After reaching the Rila Monastery, continue on the road until you reach the turn-off for the Seven Rila Lakes area. Look for signs indicating 'Seven Rila Lakes' or 'Rila Lakes'. You will need to drive approximately 21 km along a winding mountain road. Be aware that the road may be narrow and steep in some sections. There is a parking area near the lift station.

Public Transportation
To reach the Seven Rila Lakes using public transportation, first, take a bus from Rila to Sapareva Banya. Buses typically leave from the Rila bus station and the journey takes about 30 minutes. Once in Sapareva Banya, you can catch another bus or a taxi to the Seven Rila Lakes lift station. The lift ticket costs approximately 25 BGN for a round trip (as of 2023). The lift will take you up to the starting point of the hiking trail leading to the lakes.

After arriving at the lift station, you will disembark and begin your hike. The trail to the Seven Rila Lakes is well-marked and takes approximately 2 hours on foot, depending on your hiking pace.
