The museum is popularly known as the Kaliopa House, named after the wife of the Prussian consul, Maria Kalish, who was allegedly gifted the house by Midhat Pasha, the governor of the Danube Vilayet. Legend says the governor was smitten with her beauty. The house itself reflects the architectural style of Plovdiv. Inside, visitors can explore meticulously recreated rooms, including a guest room, music room, and bedroom, furnished with Viennese furniture. The exhibits showcase the influence of European culture on Ruse, which served as a gateway to Bulgaria. Admire collections of urban clothing, jewelry, silverware and the first grand piano imported into Bulgaria. The upper floor features impressive frescoes painted in 1896 by Austrian master Karl de Schauersberg. The Kaliopa House offers a unique glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of Ruse's elite during a transformative period in the city's history.
