Gishora Drum Sanctuary: A Rhythmic Haven of Cultural Heritage

Getting There

• Walking

  From the center of Gitega, start at the Gitega Cathedral (Cathédrale de Gitega), which is a well-known landmark. Head northeast on Avenue de l'Indépendance towards Rue de la Révolution. Continue straight until you reach the roundabout. At the roundabout, take the second exit onto R.N.15. Follow R.N.15 for about 6 km. Look for signs indicating Gishora Drum Sanctuary, as it is located in the Gishora area. Once you see the sanctuary, follow the path leading to the entrance.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle in Gitega. Begin your journey at the Gitega Museum to familiarize yourself with the area. Cycle north on Avenue de l'Indépendance and take a left at the roundabout onto R.N.15. Continue on R.N.15 for approximately 6 km. As you approach Gishora, keep an eye out for signage directing you to the Gishora Drum Sanctuary. Follow the signs to guide you to the entrance.

• Public Transport (Bus/Minibus)

  To reach Gishora Drum Sanctuary using public transport, locate a minibus or bus station in Gitega. You can find them near the Gitega Cathedral or along Avenue de l'Indépendance. Ask the driver for a bus heading towards Gishora or R.N.15. Once you board, inform the driver you need to stop at Gishora Drum Sanctuary. The journey will take around 20-30 minutes. Once you arrive, follow the signs to the sanctuary entrance.
