Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the nearest major city, Gitega. Head east on the N1 road for about 30 kilometers until you reach the junction for Kanzigiri. Take the exit onto Route Nationale 2 (RN2) towards Kanzigiri. Continue straight for approximately 15 kilometers, following the signs for Kanzigiri Natural Reserve. As you approach the reserve, the road will narrow, and you may encounter some unpaved sections. Make sure your vehicle is suitable for these conditions. Look for the entrance to Kanzigiri Natural Reserve, where you may need to pay an entrance fee, typically around 5,000 Burundian Francs (about $3 USD).
Public Transportation
To reach Kanzigiri by public transportation, you will first need to get to Gitega. From Bujumbura, take a bus or shared taxi to Gitega, which costs approximately 5,000 Burundian Francs (around $3 USD) and takes about 2-3 hours. Once in Gitega, look for a bus heading towards Kanzigiri. Buses may not be frequent, so check the schedule ahead of time. The fare is usually around 2,000 Burundian Francs (about $1.20 USD) for the journey. The bus will drop you off at the nearest point to the reserve, from where you might have to walk approximately 2 kilometers to the reserve entrance. Be prepared for a short hike, as the paths can be rugged.
