Foot
Start your journey at the central market in Kayanza. Head south towards Avenue de l'Indépendance. Walk straight until you reach the intersection with Avenue du 1er Novembre. Here, you can ask locals for directions to the bus station, which is about a 15-minute walk. Once at the station, look for a bus heading towards Gitega as buses frequently pass through this route.
Bus
Take the bus from Kayanza to Bujumbura. The ride will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Notify the bus conductor that you need to stop at the Mutimbuzi area. You may have to get off at a point close to the estuary, as the bus might not stop exactly at the estuary. Use the GPS coordinates (latitude: -3.3523099, longitude: 29.3231262) to know when you are close.
Walking
Once you are in the Mutimbuzi area, ask locals for directions to the Mutimbuzi River Estuary. It's best to have a map or a GPS-enabled device. Walk towards R.N.4, which is the main road; the estuary is in close proximity to this road. Follow the signs or any local guidance towards the river.
Local Transport
If you prefer a quicker option, you can hire a local guide or a motorcycle taxi (known as 'boda-boda') from Bujumbura. This can save time and ensure you reach the estuary without getting lost. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your journey.
