Getting There

  • Car

    From the center of Makamba, head west on Avenue du Stade towards Avenue de la Révolution. Continue straight for about 5 km until you reach the intersection with Route Nationale 1. Turn left onto Route Nationale 1 and continue for about 30 km. You will pass through several small towns and scenic landscapes. After about 30 minutes, keep an eye out for signs indicating a left turn towards Bujumbura. Follow this road for another 10 km, and you will arrive at Kagwema, a beautiful park area.

  • Public Transportation (Bus)

    Start at the central bus station in Makamba. Look for buses heading to Bujumbura; these are frequent and usually leave every hour. The fare is approximately 3,000 BIF ($1.50). The journey will take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Once you arrive in Bujumbura, you can either take a local taxi or a moto-taxi to Kagwema, which is about a 15-minute ride. Expect to pay around 2,000 BIF ($1) for the taxi.
