Fogo Island: Hiking Portela – 1995 Peak – 2014 Crater – Portela
Good tour to hiking Fogo
It was a good way to visit the volcano in Fogo. When I visit there, there are almost no other travelers. In order not to get lost, you need a guided tour. The view from the mountain was great. The guide was very helpful to support my hiking. This tour is from Cha das Caldeiras. If you stay in Sao Fripe, you can ask for the operater to tranfer in additional charge. This tour is not to the top of the mountain, but the middle of the point.

Fogo Island: Spectacular Vulcano HIking Experience(2829 m)
Absolute must to do if you visit Fogo
The climb is steep, very good cardio training. But every step is worth it. The view is perfect. As the light appears, man becomes aware that he is on top of a volcano that is inside a volcano. And then the descent, the absolute reward for every drop of sweat squeezed out during the ascent.

Extraordinary time in Cabo Verde with BU Country
It’s very rare that my expectations are exceeded, but in this case it’s no exaggeration to say that the BU Country team in Cabo Verde have way exceeded my expectations. My first experience with them was in April 2022 for my first trip to Cabo Verde and they were so spectacular that it encouraged me to take a second trip to Cabo Verde this past August and September. The first trip they organized for me was done within very short timeframes . I made up my mind at the last minute that I was going to go to Cabo Verde! I wanted to do all the things that CV is famous for: beaches , sea life, hiking volcanos, live music, history, culture etc. All within a 10 day period!!! They quickly came up with a plan for me and arranged for everything: my tickets for the planes and for the ferries, the pickups at each location , the individual guides, etc… They told me of the best places to stay in Cabo Verde and it was all done very quickly , efficiently, very cost-effectively. But that’s not the best part . It’s when things go wrong that you get a true measure of people’s capacities. Near the end of my trip, my ferry to Fogo was canceled at the last minute and I was stranded at the port in Praia. I let the BU team know and my guide Alfonso came to pick me up at the port and the team arranged for an overnight hotel stay and dealt with getting new tickets for my next day’s trip to Fogo and worked out all the other details. They took care of everything and I didn’t have to worry very much about anything at that point. The next day another tour was arranged for me to Cidade Velhe because Alfonso could tell that this was something I would enjoy. As a Haitian descendant of Africans from this part of the world, it was especially meaningful. The owner of BU Country, Admilson is really hands-on, warm , knowledgeable and personable. All that made it really easy to choose to go back to Cabo Verde again for my summer vacation and it was spectacular. Once again I worked with the BU country team to arrange for flights and ferries . And this time when my flight to Fogo was cancelled at the last minute, Admilson got on the phone with me right away, told me about my options , booked me on the next ferry that was going to Praia and then the next one headed to Fogo. There was a bit of drama as I missed the connection to Fogo and Admilson himself came to pick me up at the Praia port at two in the morning and made sure that I was well taken care of. It was really just amazing. I would definitely not travel to Cabo Verde without having the BU country team on my side!!!
