Discover more about Beale Park

Beale Park, established in 1908, holds the distinction of being Bakersfield's first park, a gift from Truxtun Beale who donated both the land and landscaping. This urban oasis, located on Oleander Avenue, has evolved into a dynamic space offering a diverse range of activities and attractions for locals and visitors alike. The park boasts a variety of sports facilities, including ball fields, tennis courts, and a basketball court, catering to sports enthusiasts of all ages. Horseshoe pits provide a touch of classic Americana, while chess tables offer a more contemplative pastime. Two large reservable picnic areas, along with numerous smaller individual spots, make it an ideal location for gatherings and celebrations. The Greek-style amphitheater adds a touch of elegance and serves as a venue for various performances and events, including the Beale Band Concerts during the summer. One of the park's most unique features is its large population of naturalized parakeets. Descendants of escaped birds from a 1977 windstorm, these colorful residents have become a local attraction, adding a touch of the exotic to the Bakersfield landscape. Beale Park provides a nostalgic experience for many, with childhood memories and mentions of the well-maintained facilities. The park also features playgrounds for different age groups and a water play area.
