If you are starting from Downtown Berkeley, walk to the nearest BART station, which is the Downtown Berkeley Station. From there, take the BART train towards San Francisco and get off at the Montgomery Street Station. Once you exit the station, head south on Montgomery Street towards the Embarcadero. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with California Street. Turn left onto California Street and walk until you reach the Barbary Coast Trail.

Bicycle
To bike to the Barbary Coast Trail from Berkeley, start at the Berkeley Marina. Head south along the waterfront path until you reach the intersection with University Avenue. Turn left onto University Avenue and continue until you reach the I-80 overpass. Cross the overpass and follow the bike lanes that will take you into San Francisco. Once in San Francisco, follow the signs for the Embarcadero, and then navigate towards the Montgomery Street area to find the Barbary Coast Trail.
