Once at the station, purchase a ticket to the Lake Merritt station in Oakland. After boarding the train, it will take approximately 10-15 minutes to reach Lake Merritt Station. Upon arriving at Lake Merritt Station, exit the platform and follow the signs to the park. Lake Merritt will be a short walk from the station.
AC Transit Bus
Check your location in Berkeley and find the nearest AC Transit bus stop. Routes 18 and 11 can take you towards Lake Merritt. Board the appropriate bus and ensure you ask the driver if it’s heading to Lake Merritt. The ride will take around 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. When you reach the Lake Merritt area, get off at the nearest stop and follow the signs to the lake, which is easily visible.
Walking
If you are close enough, you can enjoy a scenic walk to Lake Merritt. Start from the Berkeley campus or downtown area, head south towards the waterfront, following Shattuck Avenue. Continue south until you reach the intersection with 40th Street, then turn left onto 40th Street and walk straight to the lake. This walk will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours and provides a great opportunity to see the neighborhood.
Biking
If you have access to a bike, you can ride from Berkeley to Lake Merritt. Start in the downtown area and take the bike lanes down Shattuck Avenue. Continue south until you reach 40th Street, then turn left and follow the bike lanes to Lake Merritt. The ride will take around 30-40 minutes and offers a pleasant route with views of the city.
