Bus
From downtown Berkeley, walk to the nearest bus stop at Shattuck Avenue and University Avenue. Take the AC Transit Bus Line 7 towards San Francisco. Stay on the bus for approximately 30 minutes. Get off at the stop at Van Ness Avenue & Broadway. From there, transfer to the Muni Bus Line 45 towards the Marina District and get off at the stop at Bay & Polk. Walk up Polk Street toward Russian Hill. It’s about a 10-minute walk from there.
BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit)
Make your way to the Downtown Berkeley BART station located at 2140 Shattuck Ave. Purchase a ticket to the Embarcadero station in San Francisco. Board the train and ride for about 25 minutes. Once you arrive at Embarcadero, exit the station and walk to the Ferry Building. From there, you can catch the Muni F-line streetcar or walk up to Russian Hill, which is about a 30-minute walk along the waterfront and up the hill.
Walking
If you’re feeling adventurous and want to enjoy the sights, you can walk directly from downtown Berkeley to Russian Hill. Start by heading south on Shattuck Avenue, then turn right on University Avenue. Continue straight until you reach the waterfront, and enjoy the views. From there, you can follow the waterfront path towards San Francisco, and then take the stairs or the streets up to Russian Hill. This walk may take about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace.
Bicycle
If you're up for a bike ride, you can rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Berkeley. Head towards the Bay Trail via University Avenue, then continue along the waterfront towards San Francisco. Once you cross the Golden Gate Bridge, you can navigate the streets towards Russian Hill. This option will take about 40 minutes to an hour, depending on your cycling speed.
