Getting There
-
Hiking
If you're in Big Sur, start at the Big Sur River Inn, which is a central location. Walk south along the Pacific Coast Highway (CA-1) for about 1.5 miles until you reach the entrance of Garrapata State Park. This park has several trails, and you'll want to take the Garrapata Trail. Follow the trail for approximately 1 mile as it ascends into the hills, offering beautiful views of the coastline. Keep an eye out for trail markers. As you reach the higher elevations, you’ll encounter a fork; take the right path that leads towards Gamboa Point. The trail becomes narrower, but it will eventually lead you to the edge of the cliffs where Gamboa Point is located. The hike is moderately challenging but rewarding with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean.

Walking
For a more leisurely approach, you can walk along the coast from the Big Sur Campground. Start at the campground and walk directly towards the coast, following the riverbed. Make your way towards the state park area along the beach. This is a longer route but offers a scenic coastal experience. You’ll eventually connect with the trails leading up towards Gamboa Point. Be prepared for some rocky areas and uneven ground, but you will be rewarded with incredible views of the ocean and cliffs.
