If you are starting from the Big Sur River Inn, head north on CA-1 N (Pacific Coast Highway). Walk along the roadside, keeping an eye out for local wildlife and the stunning coastal views. After approximately 1.5 miles, you will reach the junction with Carmel Valley Road. Continue on CA-1 N for about 8 miles until you arrive in Carmel-By-The-Sea. Once in Carmel, use local maps or ask locals for the best walking paths to Butterfly House at Carmel Point, as it is approximately 1 mile from the center of Carmel.
Biking
From the Big Sur River Inn, rent a bike and head north on CA-1 N. This route is scenic and allows you to enjoy the coastal views. Bike for about 1.5 miles until you reach Carmel Valley Road, then continue for another 8 miles on CA-1 N into Carmel-By-The-Sea. As you reach Carmel, follow local bike paths to Butterfly House, located about 1 mile from the downtown area. There are bike racks available near the house.

Take the Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) bus line 22 from Big Sur to Carmel-By-The-Sea. The bus ride will take approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Carmel Plaza, exit the bus and head west towards the beach. From there, walk approximately 1 mile to Butterfly House at Carmel Point.
