If you are staying in the heart of Big Sur, you can start your journey at the Big Sur River Inn. From there, walk north along the CA-1 highway. Keep an eye out for the stunning views of the Pacific Ocean on your left. After approximately 2 miles, you will reach the junction with Carmel Valley Road. Cross the road and continue walking on the highway going north. After another mile, you will see the Carmelite Monastery on your right at 27601 CA-1. It’s a peaceful area where you can enjoy the serene atmosphere and beautiful surroundings.
Biking
For those who prefer biking, start at the Big Sur Station. Head north on the CA-1 highway, which features a bike lane. Enjoy the scenic ride as you pass through the beautiful landscapes of Big Sur. After about 3 miles, look for the Carmelite Monastery on the right side of the highway at 27601 CA-1. Make sure to wear a helmet and follow all biking regulations for safety.
Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take the Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) Bus Line 22 from downtown Carmel or Monterey heading towards Big Sur. Inform the driver you want to get off at the Carmelite Monastery stop, which is located at 27601 CA-1. The bus ride will take approximately 30 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic. Once you arrive, you will be right at the monastery, which is a short walk from the bus stop.
