To reach the First Murphy House from the Big Sur area, begin your journey at the Big Sur River Inn. Head northeast on River Street towards Highway 1. At the intersection, turn left onto Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) and continue for about 25 miles. You will be traveling through stunning coastal scenery. After approximately 25 miles, you will enter Carmel-By-The-Sea. As you approach the center of town, look for Lincoln Street on your right. Turn onto Lincoln Street and continue for about 0.3 miles. Ride the bus for about 25 miles and get off at the Carmel Plaza stop. From the Carmel Plaza, walk north on Ocean Avenue until you reach Lincoln Street.
