Public Bus
To reach Dana Point from central Irvine, start by walking to the nearest bus stop that serves the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) buses. A good starting point is the Irvine Transportation Center. Once there, catch the Route 86 bus heading South towards San Juan Capistrano. Stay on the bus for about 30-40 minutes, depending on traffic. Get off at the Pacific Coast Highway & Dana Point Harbor Drive stop. From there, it’s a short 10-minute walk towards the harbor area where you can enjoy the scenic views of Dana Point.
Train
Begin your journey at the Irvine Train Station, located at 15215 Barranca Pkwy. Board the Metrolink train on the Orange County Line heading towards San Juan Capistrano. The ride will take approximately 25-30 minutes. Once you arrive at the San Juan Capistrano station, exit and walk to the bus stop nearby. Take the OCTA Route 191 bus towards Dana Point. It will take about 10-15 minutes to reach your destination at Dana Point Harbor.
Bicycle
If you're feeling adventurous, you can rent a bicycle from one of the bike rental shops in Irvine. Head towards the Jeffrey Trail which connects to the Aliso Creek Trail. Follow the Aliso Creek Trail south, which will lead you towards Laguna Beach. Continue on the trail until you reach Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). Turn right on PCH and bike south for approximately 5 miles until you reach Dana Point. Enjoy the beautiful coastal views along the way!
Walking
If you are close to the coast and up for a long walk, you can head towards the shoreline. Walk to the nearest beach access point and follow the beach path south. This scenic route will take you through beautiful beaches before reaching Dana Point. It’s a longer option, so be prepared for a walk of around 2-3 hours, depending on your pace, but the views are worth it!
