Getting There

Public Bus
From La Jolla Village, walk to the nearest bus stop at La Jolla Village Drive & Torrey Pines Road. Take the MTS bus route 30 towards San Diego. Ride for about 20 minutes until you reach the bus stop at Mission Valley Center. Transfer to bus route 25 towards San Carlos. Stay on the bus for about 15 more minutes, and get off at the Cowles Mountain Trailhead stop. From there, follow the signs to the hiking trail.

Bicycle
If you prefer to bike, rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in La Jolla. Head east on Torrey Pines Road until you reach La Jolla Scenic Drive. Continue on La Jolla Scenic Drive for approximately 3 miles, which will take you to the intersection with Navajo Road. Turn left on Navajo Road and follow it until you reach the Cowles Mountain entrance. Make sure to lock your bike at the trailhead.

If you're feeling adventurous and up for a long walk, start from La Jolla Cove and head east on Coast Boulevard. Continue walking until you reach La Jolla Boulevard, then take a left onto La Jolla Boulevard. Walk north until you reach the intersection with Torrey Pines Road. Turn right on Torrey Pines Road and continue until you reach Mission Valley. From there, follow the directions for the bus or bike routes to reach Cowles Mountain.
