Walking
From the Santa Monica Pier, head south along Ocean Front Walk. Chess Park is located approximately 0.3 miles south of the pier, adjacent to Muscle Beach. The walk is flat and paved, offering scenic views of the beach and ocean. The walk should take approximately 5-10 minutes.
Public Transport
If arriving by the Metro E Line, exit at the Downtown Santa Monica Station. From the station, walk west on Colorado Avenue towards the pier. Continue past Ocean Avenue to Ocean Front Walk, then turn left (south). Chess Park will be on your right, a short walk from the pier. Alternatively, several Big Blue Bus lines stop near the pier; check the Big Blue Bus website for the most convenient route from your location. A single ride on the Big Blue Bus is $1.25, payable with cash (exact change) or a TAP card.
Driving
If driving, parking is available in several lots near the Santa Monica Pier and along the beach. However, parking can be limited and expensive, especially during peak season. The Pier Deck Parking Lot charges between $2.50 and $12.00 depending on the time of the day. Consider parking in downtown Santa Monica and walking to the park. Metered street parking is also available, typically costing $1.25 - $2.50 per hour with a 2-hour limit. Be sure to check parking restrictions and rates before parking.
