Discover more about Homewood Winery

Homewood Winery, a family-owned and operated winery in Sonoma, provides a delightful escape for wine enthusiasts seeking an authentic and unpretentious tasting experience. Established in the early 1980s by David Homewood, the winery has cultivated a reputation for its handcrafted, small-batch wines and its welcoming, down-to-earth atmosphere.David Homewood's journey began as a home winemaker in 1983, crafting wine with friends from Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The following year, they expanded to include Chardonnay, and by 1986, they were sourcing grapes from the newly formed Carneros AVA. This marked the beginning of Homewood Winery's signature style, characterized by a commitment to minimal intervention and a focus on showcasing the unique terroir of each vineyard. In 1988, Homewood Winery became a bonded winery, initially producing around 500 cases. Over the years, the winery has expanded its offerings to include Zinfandel, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and other varietals, with an annual production of approximately 3,000 cases. David Homewood believes in a "hands-off approach to winemaking," allowing the grapes to express their natural character. The wines are made with moderate French oak, and the reds are unfiltered and unfined at bottling, resulting in rich, robust flavors and soft tannins. The winery sources grapes from specific growers in the region, including a small holding on nearby Mt. Veeder, where Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Zinfandel are planted. Future plantings of Petite Sirah, Syrah, Grenache, and Cabernet Sauvignon are planned. This close relationship with local growers allows Homewood to create distinctive vineyard-designated wines that reflect the unique characteristics of each site.Visiting Homewood Winery is a treat for the senses. The tasting room, tucked away in a little alley-way off the main road, exudes a rustic charm that immediately puts visitors at ease. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, making it a perfect spot for both seasoned wine connoisseurs and newcomers to the world of wine. The outdoor patio, affectionately dubbed "The Redder da Better Lounge," is a popular spot for visitors to relax and enjoy a glass of wine while taking in the beautiful Sonoma scenery. The winery is also dog-friendly, making it a welcoming destination for those traveling with their furry companions.
