Discover more about MONTICELLO Napa Valley

Nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, Monticello Napa Valley offers visitors a unique and immersive wine country experience, blending the art of winemaking with a touch of American history. Founded in 1969 by Jay Corley, the winery pays homage to Thomas Jefferson, the third President of the United States, with its stunning replica of Jefferson's iconic Monticello home. This architectural tribute, combined with the Corley family's dedication to crafting exceptional wines, creates an atmosphere that is both elegant and welcoming. Jay Corley, a visionary with a passion for wine, sought to establish a winery that would capture the spirit of Jefferson's appreciation for fine wine and gracious living. He admired Jefferson's preference for wine over ale, a bold choice in early America, and sought to emulate Jefferson's refined taste in his own winemaking endeavors. The result is Monticello Napa Valley, a winery that embodies the elegance and sophistication of its namesake. The estate's centerpiece, the Monticello house, is a scaled-down replica of Jefferson's Virginia home, built in the Palladian architectural style of the Italian Renaissance. Completed in 1984, the building serves as the winery's administration center and hosts private parties and tastings by appointment. Its presence in the heart of Napa Valley creates a striking juxtaposition, a reminder of the historical connections between wine, culture, and American ideals. Beyond its architectural charm, Monticello Napa Valley is a family-run winery with a deep commitment to producing high-quality, estate-grown wines. The Corley family owns and manages approximately 135 acres of vineyards across five prime Napa Valley appellations: Oak Knoll, Yountville, Rutherford, and St. Helena. These vineyards are meticulously farmed, with a focus on sustainable practices that ensure the health of the land and the quality of the grapes. The winery produces approximately 15,000 cases of wine annually, crafted exclusively from Napa Valley grapes. The Corley family grows a variety of grapes including Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. The family takes special pride in their stature and recognition as winegrowers and wine producers, gaining both national and international acclaim since 1970 as winegrowers and 1980 as wine producers. Visitors to Monticello Napa Valley can enjoy a range of tasting experiences, designed to showcase the diversity and quality of the winery's portfolio. The tasting room, located adjacent to the barrel room, offers a cozy and comfortable setting for sampling the current releases. For a more personalized experience, guests can book a private, seated tasting in the gardens or in the Monticello house. These tastings often include older vintages and limited-production wines, providing a deeper exploration of the winery's offerings. Monticello Napa Valley is also known for its beautiful gardens, which are planted with the same vegetation that Thomas Jefferson grew at his Monticello estate. These gardens provide a tranquil setting for enjoying a glass of wine and soaking in the beauty of the Napa Valley landscape. The winery also offers picnic areas, inviting guests to relax and savor a leisurely lunch amidst the vines. In addition to its wine and scenery, Monticello Napa Valley is a popular destination for groups and special events. The winery offers a variety of memorable experiences, including cellar wine blending, musical wine blending, and sensory wine blending, all held with their winemaker. Bridal parties (but not weddings) can be hosted on the property, with sparkling wines as the beverage of choice. Tastings incorporating food are also popular among groups, including the Croquet Experience + Lunch. Special corporate gifts can be arranged through the winery, including custom-etched bottles. The Corley family has a long and storied history in Napa Valley, dating back to 1969 when Jay Corley purchased 80 acres of land in the Oak Knoll District. Before planting vines, the property was home to old prune and walnut trees. Jay sold grapes to a number of wineries including Domain Chandon and Robert Mondavi. Today, three of Jay's sons are actively involved in the winery's operations: Kevin is the Winegrower and President, Chris is the Winemaker, and Stephen is in Sales & Marketing. This family involvement ensures that Monticello Napa Valley remains true to its original vision, producing wines of exceptional quality and distinction. Monticello Napa Valley is more than just a winery; it's a destination that celebrates the intersection of wine, history, and family. Whether you're a seasoned wine connoisseur or a curious traveler, a visit to Monticello is sure to be a memorable experience. From the stunning architecture to the exceptional wines and the warm hospitality, Monticello Napa Valley offers a taste of Jeffersonian elegance in the heart of California wine country.
