Nealon Park, nestled in the heart of Menlo Park, California, stands as a testament to community spirit and recreational opportunity. Spanning nine acres, this beloved park offers a diverse range of amenities and activities, making it a popular destination for families, individuals, and visitors alike. Originally known as Menlo Recreation Park, it was renamed on April 27, 1948, to honor James J. Nealon, a dedicated chairman of the San Mateo County Youth Activity Committee. Nealon, after retiring from a 48-year career with the U.S. Customs Service in San Francisco, devoted himself to providing athletic opportunities for local boys, particularly in basketball and baseball. His legacy lives on through the park's continued commitment to recreation and community engagement. One of the park's most notable features is its updated all-abilities playground, designed to meet the seven principles of inclusive design. This nature-inspired playground, completed in the fall of 2019, offers a calming and engaging environment for children of all abilities. The dog park operates during specific hours, fostering a safe and enjoyable environment for both pets and their owners. Paved walking paths meander throughout the park, inviting visitors to take leisurely strolls and enjoy the natural surroundings. Benches and shade areas provide comfortable spots to rest and relax. Picnic areas with tables offer the perfect setting for outdoor meals and gatherings. Recent improvements to the park's parking facilities have addressed community feedback and enhanced accessibility. The city reconfigured parking spaces, adding nine spaces to the park parking lot and twelve spaces to the park frontage parking.
