The building itself, designed in the Italianate style by Newsom and Newsom, boasts stunning architectural details, including a stained-glass skylight, brass chandeliers, and a curved staircase leading to the balcony.During its heyday, the Napa Valley Opera House hosted a wide array of performances, from musical theater and vaudeville acts to appearances by famous figures like Jack London and John Philip Sousa. However, the theater closed in 1914 due to damage from the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, the decline of vaudeville, and the advent of film. For many decades, the building was used for various commercial purposes, including storage and retail.In the 1980s, efforts began to restore the opera house to its former glory. After extensive renovations, the Napa Valley Opera House reopened in 2002, with the main stage opening in 2003.
