Discover more about Oxbow Preserve

Oxbow Preserve, managed by the City of Napa, provides a unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Napa River within an urban setting. Located on McKenzie Drive, off the Silverado Trail, this preserve showcases the city's dedication to restoring and protecting natural resources. Acquired in March 2004, the preserve has undergone significant restoration, replacing non-native vegetation with native species and improving the hydraulic functioning of the site. This has resulted in a diverse landscape supporting various plant and animal life. The preserve features distinct character zones, including an oak savannah, river edge, box elder seep with a freshwater pond, and a river marsh influenced by tidal fluctuations. Visitors can explore the preserve's trails, including a quarter-mile paved loop accessible to all. This main loop features large oak trees and an open grassy area. Radiating from the loop are paths leading to more secluded trails and the southernmost point, known as "The Point," offering views of the Napa River. Oxbow Preserve is not only a recreational space but also an educational resource. It serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving natural spaces in urban environments, inviting visitors to reconnect with nature and learn about the local ecosystem.
