Discover more about Porter Family Vineyards

Porter Family Vineyards, a family-owned and operated winery, is located in the Coombsville AVA, a hidden gem in the southeastern hills of Napa Valley. Founded in 2005 by Tom and Beverly Porter, the winery reflects their passion for science, technology, and, of course, exceptional wine. Tom Porter, with a background in computer software and technology management, has infused the winery with state-of-the-art systems, ensuring meticulous control over every aspect of the winemaking process. The vineyard's location in Coombsville, Napa's 16th sub-appellation, offers a unique microclimate influenced by the nearby San Pablo Bay. This cooler climate results in a longer growing season, allowing the grapes to develop complex flavors and aromas. The 20-acre property, with 14 acres planted to vine, boasts diverse exposures and shallow volcanic ash soils, ideal for producing high-quality fruit. The vineyards are terraced into the hillsides, offering breathtaking views of the Napa Valley. What sets Porter Family Vineyards apart is its commitment to innovation and sustainability. The winery is entirely underground, housed in a 17,000-square-foot cave that maintains a constant temperature and humidity, perfect for aging wines. This underground cellar not only provides an optimal environment for winemaking but also minimizes the winery's impact on the surrounding landscape. The cave even revealed fossilized sandpiper footprints, now featured on every bottle as a symbol of the winery's connection to the land's ancient history. Visitors can expect an intimate and educational experience. Tours and tastings are conducted in the cave, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the winemaking process. Guests can sample a range of handcrafted wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. The winery is also known for its Chardonnay, sparkling wine, and two unique solera wines, a rarity in Napa Valley. Beyond its commitment to winemaking, Porter Family Vineyards is also dedicated to giving back to the community. The family established the Porter Family Foundation, which supports at-risk children in Tanzania, Sarasota, Florida, and Rochester, Minnesota. They also contribute to the Amani Children's Home in Tanzania, with 100% of the profits from their Amani label going to the organization.
