Discover more about Stags' Leap Winery

Stags' Leap Winery, not to be confused with Stag's Leap Wine Cellars (note the apostrophe), is a Napa Valley gem with a rich and colorful history dating back to 1893. Founded by Horace Chase and his wife Minnie Mizner, the estate boasts a unique terroir, ideal microclimate, and a tradition of stewardship that supports a classical standard of viticulture. Located seven miles north of Napa, the 240-acre estate is framed by the dramatic palisades, with 90 acres planted to vines. The winery is particularly known for its Ne Cede Malis Petit Sirah, produced from a traditional field blend with vines dating back to 1929, and its Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate's microclimate, created by the palisades, contributes to the grapes' rich and flavorful character. The rocky face absorbs afternoon heat and radiates it back into the valley as the evening wanes, while cool air from the San Pablo Bay cools things off in the morning. Over the years, Stags' Leap Winery has passed through several owners, each leaving their mark on the estate. Clarence and Frances Grange transformed the property into a working ranch and resort in 1913, while Carl Doumani restored the winery and vineyards in the 1970s. Today, Stags' Leap Winery is part of Treasury Wine Estates, which manages a large international wine portfolio. Visitors to Stags' Leap Winery can explore the historic grounds, taste the estate's acclaimed wines, and learn about its fascinating past. The winery offers several tasting experiences, including tours of the Manor House and wine caves.
