Discover more about Trefethen Family Vineyards

Trefethen Family Vineyards, located in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, is a family-owned winery with a rich history dating back to 1851. Originally part of Oak Knoll Farm, established by Joseph Warren Osborne, the property evolved into Eshcol Winery in 1886. The Eshcol Winery was designed by Hamden McIntyre, a renowned architect, and featured a gravity-flow system. In 1968, Eugene and Catherine Trefethen purchased the Eshcol property and surrounding land, establishing Trefethen Family Vineyards. They restored the historic winery, which is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places as the only surviving 19th-century wooden gravity-flow winery in Napa County. Today, the third generation of the Trefethen family continues the tradition of crafting estate-grown wines with a commitment to sustainable farming and gracious hospitality. Visitors to Trefethen Family Vineyards can explore the vineyards, tour the historic winery, and taste a variety of wines. The winery offers several tasting experiences, including winery flights, reserve tastings at the Villa, and vineyard tours with tastings. The Villa, a former Trefethen family residence built in the early 1900s, showcases the Arts and Crafts Movement and provides a unique setting for wine tasting. Trefethen is known for its Chardonnay and dry Rieslings.
