The Sierra College Natural History Museum (SCNHM) is located in Sewell Hall on the Sierra College Rocklin campus and has been inspiring scientific lifelong learning for students and the community for over 50 years. The museum features over 12,000 objects that tell the stories of species and how they have evolved on our planet. Natural history includes the study of all of Earth's inhabitants, past and present. Inside, visitors can marvel at a complete 38-foot-long California Gray Whale skeleton, a Narwhal skull replica, a Bowhead whale baleen plate, and a complete Manatee skeleton. Outside, mining exhibits, desert gardens, a Rock Walk, and sidewalk drawings of large extinct creatures await exploration. The museum also serves as the chief steward of the Sierra College Nature Area, where a shaded path winds through the foothill oak woodland and riparian forests. The museum offers astronomy shows in the planetarium for Sierra College students, pre-registered visitors, and select museum events. The Planetarium, built in the late 1960s, seats 50 visitors. The museum is a regional landmark for youngsters, students, teachers, teens, adults, and parents.
