Getting There

  • Walking

    If already within the Presidio, follow signs towards the Main Post or Inspiration Point, depending on your desired starting point. The trailheads are well-marked. From the Presidio Visitor Center, walk east on Moraga Avenue, past Pershing Hall, to Funston Avenue. Turn right on Funston to the parking area; the Ecology Trail trailhead will be in front of you.

  • Public Transport

    From downtown San Francisco, take the free Presidio Go Shuttle Downtown Route to the Presidio Transit Center. From there, transfer to the South Hills Route, which stops near Inspiration Point, the southern end of the Ecology Trail. Alternatively, several Muni lines (28, 29, 30, 43) serve the Presidio; check Muni's website for the closest stop to your starting point and the Ecology Trail. Muni fares vary, typically around $3 per ride.

  • Driving

    If driving, enter the Presidio through the Arguello Gate at Arguello and Pacific. Follow Arguello to Inspiration Point. Limited free parking is available at Inspiration Point Overlook with a three-hour time limit. Paid parking is available near the Presidio Officers' Club and the Main Post. Parking in the Presidio is regulated seven days a week. Expect to pay around $3.20 per hour, with a daily maximum of $16.00.
