Del Mar Dog Beach: A Canine Paradise

Del Mar Dog Beach, also called North Beach by locals, is a celebrated destination for dog lovers and their furry companions. Situated north of 29th Street, it extends nearly half a mile towards the Solana Beach border. This picturesque beach allows dogs to run and play off-leash for a significant portion of the year, making it a unique and cherished spot in Southern California. The beach features a wide, sandy expanse perfect for volleyball games and building sandcastles. The San Dieguito River meets the ocean here, creating a dynamic environment where surfers can find breaks near the river mouth and reefs to the north. A trail ascends to the James Scripps Bluff Preserve, offering panoramic views of the coastline. Del Mar has fostered pet-friendly traditions since 1959. For nine months of the year, dogs are welcome along the two-mile stretch of beach, as well as in Seagrove Park and Powerhouse Park. Along Camino Del Mar, you'll find numerous pet-friendly restaurants, hotels, and shops. **Important Information for Visitors:** * **Off-Leash Seasons:** From the day after Labor Day through June 15th, dogs can roam freely. * **On-Leash Seasons:** From June 16th through Labor Day, dogs must be leashed. However, off-leash dogs are permitted from dawn until 8 a.m.. * **Location:** North of 29th Street, extending to the Solana Beach border. * **Parking:** Available along Camino Del Mar and at 29th Street. * **Amenities:** Portable toilets are located at the north parking area and near the south neighborhood parking. A water fountain is also available.
