Discover more about Fiesta Island

Fiesta Island, a large peninsular park within Mission Bay, is a popular destination for a wide array of recreational activities. Created from dredged materials in the 1950s and 60s, this man-made island offers a unique blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Originally, the area was a tidal marsh known as False Bay. In the 1940s, the city decided to develop the area into an aquatic park, and Fiesta Island was formed from the dredged sand and silt. Today, it stands as a testament to San Diego's commitment to outdoor recreation. Fiesta Island is open to the public from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. It is known for hosting various events, including charity walks, runs, bicycle races, and the annual Over-the-Line (OTL) tournament. The island is also a popular spot for watersports enthusiasts, with designated areas for jet skiing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. The calm waters on the east side are ideal for families with children. One of the island's most popular features is its large off-leash dog park, where dogs can roam freely. The island also attracts bird watchers, as it is home to a diverse range of bird and plant species. With its scenic trails and open spaces, Fiesta Island provides ample space for biking, walking, jogging, kite flying, and frisbee.
