Discover more about Swami's Beach

Swami's Beach, also known as Swami's Reef, is more than just a picturesque beach; it's a unique blend of surf culture, spiritual history, and natural beauty. Located in Encinitas, California, it's named after Swami Paramahansa Yogananda, the Indian monk, yogi, and guru who founded the Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF) here in 1937. The SRF ashram, perched atop the bluffs, adds a serene and contemplative atmosphere to the beach. Swami's is famous for its consistent right-hand point break, drawing surfers from around the globe. The waves are best during the winter months when strong northwest swells hit the coast. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginner, Swami's offers an exhilarating surfing experience. However, bodysurfing and bodyboarding are not recommended due to the competitive surfing environment. Beyond surfing, Swami's offers a variety of activities. During low tide, explore the tide pools north of the stairs, where you can discover sea hares, brittle stars, hermit crabs, and even octopuses. The beach's firm sand is ideal for long walks, and the bluffs provide scenic views of the Pacific Ocean. Don't miss the Self-Realization Fellowship Meditation Gardens, a tranquil space for meditation and self-discovery. Stroll through the gardens, admire the koi ponds, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere. Swami's Beach provides a unique and enriching experience that captures the essence of Southern California's coastal charm.
