Discover more about Heritage Square

Step into a bygone era at Heritage Square, located in the heart of downtown Oxnard. This unique block showcases meticulously restored Victorian-era homes and buildings dating from 1876 to 1912, saved from demolition and relocated to create an enchanting historical district. Founded in 1985 with the vision of preserving Oxnard's architectural heritage, Heritage Square officially opened in 1991. Today, it comprises eleven historic homes, a church, a water tower, a pump house, and a storehouse, each carefully brought back to its original splendor. These buildings represent various architectural styles, including Queen Anne and Stick-Eastlake, offering a glimpse into the lives of Oxnard's early pioneer families. Explore the Scarlett House, once part of a 700-acre ranch, or admire the Perkins/Claberg House, an unusual combination of Queen Anne and Stick Style architecture. Don't miss the Fry-Puntenney House, the smallest in the square, or the Maulhardt Storehouse, a replica of Gottfried Maulhardt's winery building from 1876. The Heritage Square Hall, originally a Christian Church, now serves as a wedding chapel and community hall. The Pfeiler Water Tower, a landmark since 1877, houses a time capsule buried in 1991, scheduled to be opened in 2016 and 2041. Heritage Square is more than just a collection of buildings; it's a vibrant community hub. The square hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including summer concerts, tea parties, and holiday celebrations. Visitors can also explore over 25 businesses within its historical walls, including restaurants and a visitor center with a gift shop. Guided tours are available, providing insights into the architecture and the families who once lived in these homes.
