Driving
To reach Painted Canyon from Palm Springs, take I-10 East for approximately 30 miles. Exit at CA-86 South toward Brawley. Travel about 10 miles and turn left onto 62nd Avenue, then right on Johnson Street, and finally left onto 66th Avenue/Box Canyon Road. Follow Box Canyon Road until you see Painted Canyon Road and turn left. The trailhead is approximately 4.5 miles down Painted Canyon Road. Be aware that Painted Canyon Road is unpaved and can be rough. Proceed with caution, especially in a low-clearance vehicle. Parking is free at the trailhead.
