Rocky Peak Trailhead marks the beginning of an adventure into the heart of Rocky Peak Park, a 4,800-acre natural preserve situated in the Santa Susana Mountains. This park, straddling the border between Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a blend of challenging trails and stunning vistas. The area holds historical significance, having been a corridor used by the Chumash and Tongva peoples for trade and sustenance. Traces of their presence remain in the form of ancient rock art and trail systems. The park also borders the historic Santa Susana Pass, once a key stagecoach route. Rocky Peak's dramatic landscapes have even graced the silver screen, appearing in numerous classic Western films. The trails within Rocky Peak Park cater to a range of skill levels, from easy strolls to more strenuous climbs. The main trail, Rocky Peak Trail, extends for approximately 4.75 miles to Las Llajas Canyon Road. Along the way, hikers encounter rocky outcrops, native chaparral, and diverse wildlife, including coyotes, bobcats, red-tailed hawks, and scrub jays. The summit of Rocky Peak offers 360-degree views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. Visitors should note that the park has limited facilities, with no restrooms or water fountains available. Parking is also limited at the trailhead, but overflow parking is available nearby.
