    From Highway 101, exit at Avila Beach Drive. Head west towards Avila Beach, then turn left onto Cave Landing Road. Follow Cave Landing Road uphill to the large dirt parking lot at the end. Parking is free but can be limited. From the parking lot, a short trail leads down to Smugglers Cave. Be careful of potholes in the parking lot.

    From Pismo Beach, take SLO Transit Route 21 or 40 towards San Luis Obispo. Get off at the 'Avila Beach Dr. @ Cave Landing Rd.' stop. From there, walk approximately 0.5 miles along Cave Landing Road to the parking area and trailhead. Check the bus schedule for return trips. Single fare is approximately $1.75.

  • Walking

    From Pismo Beach Pier, head south along the beach. Continue onto Ocean Blvd, then turn right onto Cave Landing Rd. Follow Cave Landing Rd to the parking lot. The walk is approximately 3 miles and will take over an hour. No costs involved.
