    Getting There

    Walking

    Start at the Pismo Beach Pier located at 601 Cypress St, Pismo Beach, CA 93449. From the pier, head south on the boardwalk until you reach the end of the beach. Continue walking along the coastline until you get to the end of the beach where the trail begins. Look for signs indicating the direction to the Pismo Preserve. Enter the preserve and follow the trail marked towards the Cave Landing area.

    Once you reach the Pismo Preserve, you will take the main trail that leads upward. Continue on this trail, which has a few steep sections, but is well-marked. Follow the signs for Cave Landing. The hike is about 1.5 miles and offers beautiful views of the coastline. After about 30-45 minutes of hiking, you will arrive at Smugglers Cave. The cave entrance is near the cliffside.

    Public Transportation and Walking

    From anywhere in Pismo Beach, locate a bus stop for the SLO Transit Route 5 towards San Luis Obispo. Board the bus and ride to the 'Avila Beach Road @ Cave Landing' stop. After disembarking, you will need to walk about 0.5 miles along Cave Landing Road, which leads to the entrance of Smugglers Cave. Be aware of traffic as you walk along the road.
