Discover more about Lassen Volcanic National Park

Lassen Volcanic National Park, located in Northern California, protects a landscape sculpted by volcanic activity and hydrothermal features. Established in 1916, the park encompasses the southernmost point of the Cascade Range, showcasing a diverse range of volcanic phenomena. Here, you'll find steaming fumaroles, bubbling mud pots, and boiling springs reminiscent of Yellowstone, combined with the rugged mountain scenery of Yosemite, but with a fraction of the crowds. The park's centerpiece, Lassen Peak, is the largest plug dome volcano in the world. Its most recent eruptions between 1914 and 1917 dramatically reshaped the surrounding landscape. Visitors can hike to the summit for panoramic views or explore the Devastated Area, a testament to the power of these eruptions. Beyond the volcanic features, Lassen Volcanic National Park boasts pristine lakes, lush meadows, and dense forests. Hike to Kings Creek Falls, explore the colorful Painted Dunes, or paddle across the tranquil waters of Manzanita Lake. The park also offers opportunities for stargazing, with minimal light pollution providing stunning views of the night sky. Lassen Volcanic National Park is a year-round destination, though access to some areas is limited during the winter months due to snow. Summer offers ideal conditions for hiking and camping, while winter transforms the park into a snowy wonderland for skiing and snowshoeing.
