    From the center of Carmel-by-the-Sea, head southeast on Ocean Ave towards Mission St. Continue straight on Ocean Ave until you reach the intersection with San Carlos St. Turn left onto San Carlos St and walk until you reach 6th Ave. Turn right onto 6th Ave and continue until you reach the intersection with Carmel Beach. From there, head south along the beach path until you reach Scenic Rd. Continue along Scenic Rd, following the coastline. This will lead you to the entrance of the Big Sur area. Note that this walk will take several hours and is quite scenic.

  • Public Transportation

    Take the Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) bus line 22 from the Carmel Plaza bus stop. Make sure to check the schedule as the frequency may vary. Ride the bus towards Big Sur and enjoy the views along the way. Get off at the Big Sur stop nearest to 52801 CA-1. From the bus stop, walk a short distance along CA-1 to reach your destination at 52801 CA-1, Big Sur.
