    Discover more about Sunset Cliffs

Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a 68-acre expanse of natural beauty along the Point Loma peninsula in San Diego. The park derives its name from the rugged, sandstone cliffs that meet the Pacific Ocean, creating a dramatic and picturesque coastline. Originally landscaped in 1915 by Albert Spalding, the park was envisioned as a place for all to enjoy the stunning views. Spalding invested approximately $2 million to create walkways, bridges, and stairways, incorporating Japanese architectural elements. Although the original design fell into disrepair, the area's natural beauty continued to attract visitors. Today, Sunset Cliffs Natural Park offers visitors a variety of activities. The cliffside trails are popular for walking and sunset viewing. At low tide, the tide pools reveal a fascinating world of marine life, including hermit crabs, sea anemones, and small fish. The park is also a popular spot for surfing and diving. Sunset Cliffs is more than just a scenic park; it's a place where the forces of nature are on full display. The crashing waves, the dramatic cliffs, and the vibrant sunsets create an unforgettable experience.
