Discover more about Waterfront Park

Waterfront Park, located at 1600 Pacific Hwy in San Diego, is a vibrant 12-acre public space that has become a quintessential destination for both residents and visitors. Constructed in 2014, the park transformed the area surrounding the historic County Administration Center (CAC) into a beautiful and functional waterfront amenity. The park's design integrates the existing historic landscape with modern features. Interactive fountains extend from the County Administration Center, defining a large civic green where people can gather and play. The park also includes a playground, garden rooms, benches, and picnic areas, making it suitable for various activities and events. The north end of the park features an off-leash dog area, pickleball and basketball courts, table tennis, and an outdoor exercise station. The south end offers a large playground, reservable picnic areas, a chess table, and a bocce ball court. Waterfront Park's history is intertwined with the County Administration Center, which was built in 1938. The CAC was envisioned as a public gathering place, and the park fulfills this vision by providing open space and recreational opportunities. The park was designed by Hargreaves Associates and Schmidt Design Group. Significant portions of the 1939 landscape remain, including the East Courtyard and the plaza west of the CAC. The western plaza features the granite Guardian of Water statue by artist Donal Hord.
