Getting There

  • Driving

    From San Francisco, cross the Golden Gate Bridge heading north. Take the Alexander Avenue exit immediately after the bridge. To reach Battery Spencer and other vista points, turn right onto Conzelman Road. For Rodeo Beach, the Marin Headlands Visitor Center, and other destinations, turn left onto Bunker Road and proceed through the Baker-Barry Tunnel. Toll: A toll of $9.75 is charged when driving southbound (into San Francisco) across the Golden Gate Bridge. No toll is charged when driving northbound (towards the Marin Headlands). Parking: Free parking is available at various lots throughout the Marin Headlands, including Conzelman Road, Hawk Hill, and Rodeo Beach. However, lots can fill quickly, especially on weekends.

  • Public Transport

    From San Francisco, take Golden Gate Transit Route 101, 132, or 150 to the Spencer Avenue Bus Pad in Sausalito. From there, walk under the freeway and take the Morning Sun Trail up into the Headlands. Alternatively, take the Golden Gate Transit Route 130 to the Highway 101 and Alexander Avenue stop. From there, walk towards the Dana Bowers Vista Point and cross under the Golden Gate Bridge to access the Coastal Trail. Cost: Golden Gate Transit fares vary depending on the distance traveled.   • Taxi/Ride-share

    Taxi and ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft are available from San Francisco and Sausalito. From Sausalito, a taxi to the Marin Headlands costs approximately $23-$28 and takes about 16 minutes. Note: limited cell service in some areas may make it difficult to call for a ride back.
