Discover more about Main Parade Lawn

The Main Parade Lawn, located in the heart of the Presidio, is a vibrant seven-acre gathering space with a captivating history. Established in 1898, it served as a dusty training ground for soldiers stationed at the adjacent Montgomery Street Barracks. They conducted drills and participated in military ceremonies here. In 1937, it was converted into a parking lot, serving that purpose for over six decades. In 2011, a transformation began, turning two-thirds of the parking lot back into a green space for everyone to enjoy. Today, the Main Parade Lawn is where San Francisco comes to relax. On any given day, you might see people flying kites, enjoying food from Presidio food trucks, or simply lounging on the grass with a book. The lawn is framed by historic buildings and offers stunning views of the San Francisco Bay. It's also steps away from other popular attractions such as Presidio Tunnel Tops, the Presidio Visitor Center, and The Walt Disney Family Museum. The Main Parade Lawn hosts various events throughout the year, including concerts, festivals, and community celebrations.
