From Santa Clara, head to the nearest VTA Light Rail station, which is the Santa Clara station. Take the VTA Light Rail towards Alum Rock. Disembark at the San Jose Diridon station. From there, transfer to the Santa Cruz Metro bus service. Board the Route 17 bus towards Santa Cruz. You will need to get off at the stop for Pescadero. After disembarking, walk approximately 1.5 miles northwest along Cloverdale Road to reach Butano State Park.

If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from a local rental shop in Santa Clara. Start by traveling west on El Camino Real. Continue until you reach CA-85 and take the bike path that leads to the south. Follow the signs for Pescadero. It's roughly a 20-mile ride; ensure you have enough water and snacks for the journey. Upon arriving in Pescadero, navigate to Cloverdale Road, where Butano State Park is located.

If you are feeling adventurous and want to walk, start at the Santa Clara Convention Center. Walk towards the nearest VTA Light Rail station and take the light rail to San Jose Diridon. From there, walk to the Santa Cruz Metro bus terminal, which is about a 10-minute walk. Board the Route 17 bus towards Santa Cruz and travel until you reach Pescadero. After getting off the bus, walk along Cloverdale Road for about a mile to reach Butano State Park. This option will take considerable time and energy, so plan accordingly.
