Discover more about Esplanade Park

Esplanade Park, located at 120 Monterey Ave in Capitola, California, is the vibrant heart of Capitola Village, offering a picturesque blend of natural beauty and community spirit. Situated directly on the Monterey Bay, the park provides breathtaking panoramic views of the ocean, making it a prime location for relaxation and recreation. Historically, the area where Esplanade Park now stands has been central to Capitola's development as a seaside resort. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this area was home to the Capitola Hotel, a grand Victorian-era establishment that drew visitors from across California. The hotel, unfortunately, succumbed to fire in 1929, but its legacy as a gathering place for tourists and locals alike has endured. The Esplanade itself was reconfigured in 1925, curving out onto the beach and creating the lawn area that exists today. This reconfiguration shifted the trolley line to Capitola Avenue, further shaping the layout of the village. Today, Esplanade Park serves as a focal point for numerous community events and activities. During the summer months, the park comes alive with the popular Twilight Concerts, held every Wednesday evening. These events contribute to the park's vibrant atmosphere and make it a hub of activity for the town.
