Bus
From Santa Monica, head to the Santa Monica Civic Center Transit Station. Board the Big Blue Bus Line 7 or 8 towards Los Angeles. Ride for approximately 30 minutes until you reach the intersection of 5th St & Main St in Downtown Los Angeles. From there, transfer to the Metro Gold Line at the Little Tokyo/Arts District Station. Ride for another 10 minutes and get off at the next stop, which is the Alameda St & Central Ave stop. Walk for 3 minutes to reach the Japanese American National Museum at 100 N Central Ave.

Metro
Make your way to the Santa Monica Metro Expo Line station. Take the Expo Line towards Downtown Santa Monica. After about 40 minutes, get off at the 7th St/Metro Center station. Transfer to the Metro Blue Line towards Washington Station. Ride for two stops and get off at the Little Tokyo/Arts District station. From there, walk for about 5 minutes to reach the museum located at 100 N Central Ave.

Bike
If you're comfortable biking, rent a bike from a local bike share station in Santa Monica. Head east on Pico Blvd and continue straight until you reach the Los Angeles River bike path. Follow the path north until you reach the downtown area. Once you arrive in Little Tokyo, navigate to 100 N Central Ave. The entire ride should take about 50 minutes.

Walking
If you're up for a longer walk, start from the Santa Monica Pier and head east on Ocean Ave. Continue straight onto 2nd St, which will lead you into downtown Los Angeles. Follow 2nd St until you reach Main St. Turn left and walk north on Main St until you reach 1st St. Turn right onto 1st St and then left onto Central Ave. The Japanese American National Museum will be on your left at 100 N Central Ave. This route is approximately 10 miles and will take about 2.5 hours.
