    From Visalia, take Highway 198 East (Generals Highway) into Sequoia National Park. Continue on Generals Highway, following signs for Giant Forest. Turn right onto Crescent Meadow Road. Drive for approximately 2.6 miles to the Crescent Meadow parking area. Note that Crescent Meadow Road may be closed to private vehicles on weekends and holidays during the summer months. Parking at the High Sierra Trailhead can be limited. Check for updates on road conditions and closures before your visit by calling the 24-Hour Park Information Hotline.

  • Public Transport

    From Visalia, take the Sequoia Shuttle to the Giant Forest Museum. Reservations are required and cost $20 round trip, which includes park entrance. From the Giant Forest Museum, transfer to the free in-park shuttle (Route 2 - Gray Route) to the Crescent Meadow parking area. From the Crescent Meadow parking area, the Chimney Tree is a short walk along the Crescent Meadow Loop Trail. The in-park shuttle operates from late May to early September.

  • Walking

    From the Crescent Meadow parking area, walk east towards the trailhead. Turn right at the trailhead and hike southeast briefly before veering left/north onto the Crescent Meadow Loop Trail. Continue for about 0.4 miles on the Crescent Meadow Loop Trail towards Chimney Tree. The trail is relatively flat and easy to navigate. Watch for signs to stay on the correct path.
