Discover more about Riverwalk District

The Reno Riverwalk District, nestled along the Truckee River, is a revitalized downtown hub that blends natural beauty with urban excitement. Spanning the Truckee River between Arlington Avenue and Lake Street, the Riverwalk has evolved from a modest settlement in the mid-19th century to a bustling center of activity. Originally, the Truckee River provided water, transportation and power for mills, spurring Reno's growth, especially after the arrival of the transcontinental railroad in 1869. However, by the mid-20th century, the riverfront area had fallen into disrepair. In the 1990s, a collaborative effort began to transform the area, resulting in today's Riverwalk District. The Riverwalk is now home to over three dozen restaurants, pubs, museums, galleries, shops and the Truckee River Whitewater Park. Visitors can enjoy a stroll along the river, explore the various businesses, or attend one of the many events held throughout the year. The Riverwalk also features public art installations and parks, including Wingfield Park, which hosts concerts and festivals. The district's rich history is palpable, with landmarks like the Mapes Hotel foundation reminding visitors of Reno's glamorous past. The Riverwalk Merchants Association actively preserves the area's culture and heritage, ensuring that the Riverwalk remains a vibrant and engaging destination.
