Getting There

  • Walking

    From the center of Tahoe City, head south on North Lake Boulevard (CA-89). Continue walking along the lakeshore until you reach the Tahoe City Commons Beach Park. This is a scenic area, and you'll have a beautiful view of the lake as you walk. After about 1 mile, you will come to a junction at the end of the park. Here, take a left onto Tahoe Park Heights Road. Follow this road uphill for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Highway 89. Cross the highway carefully and continue straight onto Geo Whittell Rd, which will take you directly towards Thunderbird Lodge. The lodge is located about 1.5 miles down this road. Follow the signs to the lodge entrance.

  • Biking

    From the Tahoe City bike path, start on the path heading south towards the Tahoe City Commons Beach. After passing the beach, continue onto the bike path that leads away from the lake. You'll want to follow the bike path until it intersects with North Lake Boulevard (CA-89). Turn right and bike along the highway for about 1 mile. Once you reach the junction at Tahoe Park Heights Road, turn left and continue uphill about 0.5 miles. When you reach the intersection with Highway 89, cross carefully and stay on Geo Whittell Rd. The Thunderbird Lodge is about 1.5 miles ahead on your right. Look for the signs indicating the lodge.

  • Public Transit (Bus)

    To get to Thunderbird Lodge via public transit, start at the Tahoe City Transit Center. Take the Tahoe Area Regional Transit (TART) bus heading towards Stateline. Inform the driver that you would like to get off at the stop closest to Geo Whittell Rd. Once you disembark, walk south along the highway for about 0.3 miles until you reach Geo Whittell Rd. Turn left onto Geo Whittell Rd and continue walking for approximately 1.5 miles until you arrive at Thunderbird Lodge. Please check the TART schedule in advance for bus times and routes.
